That backstage hard light very rarely do you get it during shows, but when you do it’s . This image isn’t my “best” work, but it takes me back to that morning. Wasn’t supposed to be backstage but I snuck in anyways… got kicked out by security, ran around to a back entrance and creeped back in to shoot this. These imperfections are my fav. Ugly. A beautiful dress around people it doesn’t belong. We’re all burnt out 3rd week for FW… partied out, bedazzled by the lights, saving enough energy to just barely make it through pfw. We just wanna go home and hopefully not get sick. What comes to mind when I revisit this image.

Among my whirlwind five-year sprint through fashion shows (SS/FW/Couture/Cruise), the images captured for CR Fashionbook stand out the most to me. It was a pivotal time in my career—entering the industry with confidence yet eager to absorb knowledge like a sponge. This marked the beginning, before I became the brands' house photographer. Little did I know, this chaotic period was the best part: full-on chaos, high stress, a crash course in 'what do you do?' Coming from a skateboarding background, I was accustomed to chaos and challenge. Being a guest at these prestigious designer shows was a privilege, but my heart beat for photography, not judging collections. I vividly recall asking everyone around me how to gain backstage access—once I did, I was hooked. Stepping away from skateboarding, I realized I missed the challenge. The chaos of fashion shows gave me a similar rush. After sprinting from show to show, city to city, event to event, I felt I had enough experience to offer my own insights into the beauty amidst the chaos. This image captures my profound admiration for the young models and creatives backstage, sacrificing meals, sleep, and energy to deliver what the audience craves and navigate through the shows—it's truly fascinating. I have a deep appreciation for hard-working, talented individuals. During this time, I had less stress and could experiment freely with my camera operations. I remember slowing down my shutter speed (bracketing) to around 1/30 of a second, shooting with my left hand while manually triggering a high-speed flash with my right. There was room for error, but the rewards captured embodied exactly what I aimed for.

It's easy to feel a bit scattered, like in this candid moment. Reflecting on these images brings me back to the tremendous growth in my fashion photography career. Survival means saving up and starting out by working for free. Be kind, observant, and supportive to everyone. Understand the industry hierarchy and check your ego at the door. Embrace where you are and live in the moment. Stay focused and efficient. But also, lighten the mood with jokes and make others feel welcome. After all, it's just a fashion show.
